PRESLEY O’BANNON STATE HISTORICAL MARKER REFURBISHED AND RE-DEDICATED BY KENTUCKY MARINES

Frankfort, Kentucky; April 24, 2021: Despite the threat of heavy rain, active, reserve and veteran Marines gathered in the Frankfort Cemetery to re-dedicate a recently refurbished Kentucky State Historical Marker at the grave-site of Marine Corps icon Presley O’Bannon. In recent years, the marker, which was originally placed in 1973 by the Kentucky Historical Society, had significantly deteriorated, to the point that visitors to the O’Bannon grave-site had made mention of same to local Marine Corps veterans. Under the leadership of the Marine Corps League, Presley O’Bannon Detachment, Frankfort, Kentucky, funds were raised from the Marine Corps community in Kentucky, for the costly foundry refurbishment of the marker. Generous grants were received from the Marine Corps League, Presley O’Bannon Detachment, Frankfort, Kentucky; Marine Corps League, Dan Daly Detachment, Lexington, Kentucky and the Marine Corps Coordinating Council of Kentucky, with the marker being re-dedicated during a ceremony involving active duty Marines from the Recruiting Station Louisville and local members of the Marine Corps League.
